Building People to People Relationships

OWGLA's website will be undergoing a long overdue update and upgrade in the very near future...

which means that some parts of the site may not work or may still contain old information...

We'll try to get the really out-of-date stuff cleaned up first and then work on improved content....

In the mean time if you’re interested in joining the conversation please go to our discussion group at

Yahoo groups, see more of what we’re about and apply to our moderator for posting privileges…

Hope you come back and visit again as things are being freshened up....

Stay tuned......

Who Are We?

The Ohio Working Group on Latin America (OWGLA) is made up of individuals from all over the state of Ohio who are concerned about U.S. involvement and U.S. Policies in Latin America. Members of OWGLA participate in local and National Organizations striving to live peace.

What Do We Do?

Adhering to our principles of unity, OWGLA forms relationships with:

1.) Latin American communities, in order to learn about their experiences and needs.

2.) Ohio communities, in order to share the experiences of people in Latin America and increase awareness that is translated into advocacy.

3.) Congress, in order to voice the needs and experiences of people in Latin America and urge members to support just and democratic policies in the region. Further, OWGLA urges members to visit the Latin American people and grassroots groups.

How We Do This?

OWGLA members are committed to the belief that communities throughout the world can live in peace and harmony. Based upon the principles of nonviolence, OWGLA:

  • Supports political not military solutions to all conflicts.
  • Supports dialog to resolve differences.
  • Encourages self-determination for people throughout Latin America.
  • Utilizes peaceful, nonviolent actions to alleviate poverty, assure respect for human rights, to help provide personal security, encourages integrity of communities, and to sustain cultural harmony throughout Latin America.

When Do We Meet?

OWGLA previously met once each quarter on a Sunday afternoon and meeting times were usually from 2:00-6:00pm. In recent years meetings have been centrally located in Columbus, Ohio but we are open to other inclusive alternatives. We are currently on hiatus due to scheduling conflicts but hope to continue our work online and across the state with an occasional gathering to renew acquaintances and our energy levels.

For more information about upcoming meetings please visit our Events page.
